CRISTINA SÁNCHEZ SALAMANCA
Cristina Sánchez Salamanca’s exploration as a director and screenwriter seeks to examine the brokenness and obscurity of the human condition. Themes of alienation, corporality, duality, identity and darkness are recurrent in her work, all of which she brings from her own experiences inhabiting the world she lives in.
Her autobiographical short film BEBÉ, portrayed the obscure angst that comes in experiencing girlhood while adapting to a fractured family, while her vision in ’The TOUR ’23 looked to reconcile the chaotic existence that comes in inhabiting the world in a woman’s body and navigating her home city of Bogotá. By creating a dialogue between the inappropriate and grotesque with the beautiful and canonical, Cristina’s visual language thrives in the contradictions that define being a human in today’s world.
